Helen Jean Lindsey, 98, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio, after a long and fulfilling life. Born June 14, 1927 in Steubenville, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Lz and Vivian Winifred (Wetzel) Bloom.
A Dennison resident throughout her life, Helen was a 1945 graduate of Dennison High School. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who will be remembered for her welcoming home and delicious cooking, especially by her many friends and family members whom she gifted with her homemade fudge each Christmas season. She was a longtime member of the Junior Sorosis Club and will be missed by her many friends, including Katie Michels with whom she had walked five miles each day for many years. Most of all, Helen cherished the time that she spent babysitting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the light of her life. Since 2014, she had attended Park Christian Church in Dennison until her health prevented her.
On October 3, 1950, Helen married John R. “Jack” Lindsey with whom she enjoyed over 63 years of loving marriage until his passing on February 18, 2014. They are survived by their children, Suzanne (James) Lindsey Henderson, Stephen (Suzette) Lindsey, Deborah (Richard) Bonifay, and Diane (Martin) Merryman; grandchildren, Shawn Lindsey, Emily (Henk) DeRee, Christine (Brian) Baughman, Lisa (Dennis) McNeil, Cheryl (Justin) Sestito, Justin (Belinda) Merryman, and Lindsey Merryman; and great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Riley, and Ainsley DeRee, Broc and Elle Baughman, Madison McNeil, Anthony, James, and Jacob Sestito, and Peyton, Cora, and Mason Merryman, as well as a large extended family including nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Delbert Bloom and Ora Trimmer.
Tim Thomas will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, November 3, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Helen’s family will receive callers from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, prior to the service. The family would like to thank Park Village Southside for the two years of wonderful care that they provided for Helen. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
