Holley Josephine Nowell was born in Baumholder, Germany on October 1, 1954 on a U.S. Army base. She graduated high school in Beaumont and moved to Houston where she worked as an executive secretary. Her favorite job was as a legal secretary. Holley was creative and did lovely embroidery and crochet, grew beautiful roses, was an avid reader, enjoyed community theater and literature, and science fiction programs such as Dr. Who and Star Trek. Holley married Eugene Smith, Sr. and they were stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in Texas and Hawaii. Upon returning home to Texas, their son Eugene L. Smith, Jr. was born.
Holley is survived by her son, Eugene, Jr.; her three grandchildren, Bryan Smith of Oslo, Norway, Scarlette Rose Smith of Houston, and Leila Smith of Houston, TX, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family. Holley is also survived by her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela & Doug Rickman of Huntsville, AL, and Laurie & Pat Sykes of Colmesneil, TX and their families.
