Dolgin Howard Arthur Age 70. A long time resident of West Mt. Airy Philadelphia, died peacefully at home at Shannondell, Audubon, Pennsylvania on October 23, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Trudy of 52 years; his brother Herbert Dolgin, his wife, Theresa (Tess) and their children, William, Katherine, and Andrew. Howard is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Sylvia (nee Lucacher) Dolgin. Dearly loved by children, adults, family and friends, he will be remembered for his dedication to education and his wonderful sense of humor. His quick wit and his insightful observations never failed to bring smiles and chuckles to many conversations. His love of learning made him knowledgeable in science, history, politics, sports, education, geography, and so much more … all of which brought substance and interest to many discussions. With over 50 years as a K-8 educator in the Philadelphia public and non-public schools, he was an avid proponent of tutoring. Throughout his career, Howard trained parents, aides, volunteers, college students and 5th graders to tutor children. He believed strongly in evaluating students, placing them on appropriate, individual levels with targeted, sequential instruction in literacy. He enriched the lives of faculty and students by writing and receiving 46 Paths Prism Grants in math, science, the arts, and literature. In 1984 he received the B'nai B'rith Award of Excellence and the following year he was the recipient of the Rose Lindenbaum Improvement of Education Award. As an educator in non-public schools, he had students participate in the National Geography Bee. He created a sports geography/history quiz in which students researched, interviewed, and wrote articles that were published weekly in the local Fishtown news, The Star…an impressive 180 articles in all. After retirement, Howard's interest in early childhood education led him to the Parent Child Plus Program. This program works with parents and their toddlers and preschoolers using toys and books to build literacy and social and emotional skills for school readiness. Howard's investigation into genealogy led him to author two family histories. His grandfather's story is chronicled in the September 2024 edition of Harry Lucacher : A Life Dedicated to the Boys of the Hebrew National Orphan Home. The second, about Howard's cousin, Harry Kabran, The Survivor: The Autobiography of Harry Kabran "You Have to Fight to Survive".
