(Gasport) Irene M. “Reenie” Capurro age 93, passed away September 20, 2024, at the Elderwood of Lockport following a brief illness. She was born April 1, 1931, in Niagara Falls, NY, a daughter of the late Frank and Dolly Capurro.
As a young girl, Reenie worked on the family farm. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Buffalo and worked as a Lab Technician for Lockport Memorial Hospital and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Reenie gave up her career to help her mom run the Hammond Hotel in Gasport, where she worked for many years, and after, worked at the Gasport Elementary School. She enjoyed skiing and sailing and owned her own sailboat. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her friend’s telling stories.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Franny.
She is survived by her great-nephew Tony (Tina) Mole; her long-time friends Susan, Beth, Debbie and the Brigham family as well as many other friends.
There will be no services. Memorials may be made to the Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Rd., Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sherrie Bream Funeral Home, Gasport.
