JACK CHILDERS, age 91, of Estill Springs, Tenn., departed this life on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the home of his daughter in Lynchburg, losing his battle with cancer. Mr. Childers was born in Mullberry, Tenn., on April 1, 1933, to the late Willie Wilson Childers and Grace Leila Young Childers. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served two tours of duty during the Korean War. He lived most of his working years in Illinois where he retired from the Carpenters Union there and then was employed for several more years at the Dresden Nuclear Power Plant as a Millwright. He loved sitting on his 4-wheeler by the road and socializing with his friends that passed by. Mr. Childers would watch M.A.S.H. most days and often would go to sleep at night watching Gunsmoke, his favorite T.V. show. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather and greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Childers was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Childers. He is survived by his children, Veronica Leech and husband, Rodney of Lynchburg, Stephen Childers and wife, Cheryl of Grandview, Tenn., Melissa Pifer of Bryan, TX.
