Jack Maurice DeHanas, born on January 20, 1939, in Miami, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away on September 30, 2024, in Naples, Florida. Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who touched the lives of many with his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Rachel, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they raised four sons: Don (David), David (April), Douglas (Michael), and Darryl (Cathy), who will always remember their father as a pillar of strength and kindness. Jack was also a proud grandfather to his four grandchildren: Chris (Vanessa), Amanda, Brett, and Lauren, each of whom brought him immense joy.
In addition to his immediate family, Jack is survived by his sister-in-law Marcia, his nieces Laura Holland and Lisa Winkler, and his great-nieces and nephews Zack Holland, Lindsey Holland, Riley Winkler, Alexandra Winkler, and Mason Winkler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Wyota Lucille DeHanas, and his brother Thomas DeHanas, with whom he shared a close bond.
Jack dedicated over 20 years of his life to the U.S. Army, where he retired with distinction as a Lieutenant Colonel. His service to his country did not end there, as he went on to work for the CIA before transitioning into a successful real estate career alongside his wife.
Jack and Rachel moved to Marco Island, fulfilling Jack's love for living by the water and boating. His passion for the sea was matched by his lifelong devotion to Oklahoma State University football and the Washington Redskins. Jack was also an avid world traveler, often exploring Europe with his brother Thomas and sister-in-law Marcia, revisiting places filled with fond childhood memories. Among all the places he traveled, Germany held a special place in his heart, and he was known for having one of the largest collections of beer steins, a reflection of his deep affection for the country and its traditions.
Jack was known for his craftsmanship, geographical knowledge, and leadership in his community. He served as President of the Marco Island Men's Club and as Treasurer of the Caxambas Republicans Club, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him. Jack was also a proud member of the VFW and the American Legion of Marco Island, where he remained dedicated to supporting fellow veterans and honoring his years of service to his country.
Jack's legacy is one of love, dedication, and adventure. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers the DeHanas family askes that you make a donation in Jack's name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
