Jack was born on June 28, 1935 in Stahl, MO, the son of Cleo "Jack" and Daisy (VanHoose) Mills. He was united in marriage to Hazel Long on August 29, 1959. Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He retired in 1996 from railroad bridge crew.
Jack enjoyed his family, friends, and hunting. He was well known for his charming and engaging character.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Shelly Jones and her husband Ross of Travelers Rest, SC; bonus daughter, Lisa Berry and her husband Richard of Atlanta, MO; grandchildren, Tiffany Winstead, Aurora Winstead, Kirste (Ethan) Rattray and their children, Helen Rattray, Valerie Rattray and Hart Rattray, Audra Newcomer, Lee (Cassie) Newcomer, Alex Pipes, Jasmine Pipes, Arthur (Lane) Addie, Daytona Newcomer, Gabby (Josh) Chance, and Atlas Vantiger. He is also survived by his brothers, Frank Mills and his wife Nancy of Atlanta, MO, Denny Mills and his wife Dee of Huntington, IN, Randy Mills and his wife Garla of Stahl, MO; sisters-in-law, Carol Mills of Drums, PA and Laurie Mills of Mason City, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Hazel Mills on January 19, 2017; daughter, Sherry Lee Giles; infant son; sister, Norma VanZee; brothers, Gilbert Mills and Larry Mills.
Graveside service, with full military honors, will be 12:00 pm, Friday, July 25, 2025 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 am, Friday morning, at the Elliott Funeral Home in Atlanta, MO. The family suggests memorials to the Adair County Animal Shelter.

Sending prayers for the family, Jack was a great family friend of my parents, we spent a lot of time with him, his wife, and I grew up with his children. He was crazy, goofy, fun, loving, and a caring person. He will be missed by so many. My heart goes out to family and friends as they deal with this loss. Shelly sending you a big HUG.
