Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Mr. James Edward Dickey, 80, loving husband of 35 years to Betty Hargett Dickey.
James was born in Millen, GA, but grew up in St. Marys, GA. He was a graduate of Camden County High School. He worked at Gilman Paper Mill, until he enlisted in the United States Airforce where he became a linguist in the Persian language. Following the Airforce, he began a 35 year career in insurance sales. James first sold insurance for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and retired as an agent with Franklin Life Insurance Company. He attended Martinez Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Georgia football.
Family members in addition to his wife include his daughters: Carla Dickey and Angela Thibodeaux; stepdaughter: Sherry H. Sanders (Joel); grandchildren: Michael Thibodeaux., Raven Elliott, Mary Catherine Crookston (Jeremy), Ally Dickey, Sadie Hargett, Dayton Wood, and Ben Hargett; great-grandchildren: Cruise Dickey, Zola Dickey, Zeland Dickey, and Emmett Fitzgerald. He is predeceased by his son: Bradley Dickey; and his stepdaughter: Lisa Marie Hargett.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Garden Lobby of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Herman Bouwhuizen officiating. Interment will follow in Buck Creek Cemetery in Sylvania, GA.
