With profound sadness, we announce the passing of James Ethridge of Terre Haute, IN, on December 8, 2024, after a short illness. He was born in Saluda, SC, on May 22, 1941, to the late James Ethridge Sr. and the late Mary Alice Hopkins-Spann-Ethridge. He was a retired Chef at Indiana State University, where he was known as "Red Hot" because he served it up steaming hot! Loved by all the staff and students, he always had a smile and a story to tell. In Kentucky, he was lovingly known as June and also as "Popcorn."
James loved to dance and listen to music. As a hobby, he collected antiques and collectibles, cherishing anything that was old. He was a well-respected man, loved by many, and he never met a stranger.
He is preceded in death by one son, Tim Palmer; four sisters, Bessie Mae Ethridge-Tye, Violet Spann-Scott, Island Spann-Roudez, and Mary Alice Ethridge; and two brothers, Andrew Spann and Douglas Spann.
He leaves to mourn his passing one daughter, Feleciea Palmer-Mundy of Richmond, KY; three sons, Chris Palmer of Louisville, KY, James Anthony Ethridge of Terre Haute, IN, and Jeffery Scott Ethridge of Georgetown, KY; one sister, Mattie Ethridge-Howard of Richmond, KY; and one brother, Clarence Ethridge (Judy) of Richmond, KY. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend, C. Lynn Dunn, who he loved and cherished. Thank you, Lynn; we know you will miss him.
Memorial service details will be announced at a later date at Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
The family of James Ethridge would like to thank everyone for their kindness during our time of bereavement.
