It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of James Lawrence Hooker, who left this world on September 8, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on November 3, 1960, in Los Angeles, California, James was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence brought warmth and laughter to everyone he met.

James grew up with a strong work ethic, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather to become a skilled plumber. He later built a thriving plumbing business from the ground up, earning the trust and respect of countless customers and friends over the years. Before his career in plumbing, James was passionate about surfing and competed in multiple competitions.

For more than 30 years, James called Georgia home, where he raised his family and formed lifelong friendships. He loved being outdoors and had a deep respect for animals and the beauty of nature. Whether he was swimming, fishing, skiing, or simply enjoying the fresh air, James was at his happiest under an open sky.

He is survived by those who meant the world to him: his cherished daughter, Alexa Hooker; his son, Matt Woods; his daughter and son-in-law, Madison and Cameron Everett; and his treasured grandchildren, Addy Deese, Mason Everett, Creed Everett, and Rowyn Everett. He also leaves behind his sister, Candy DeHay; brothers, Robert and Richard Portillo; and several nieces and nephews who will carry his memory with love.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward "Ed" Hooker; mother, Sandra "Sandy" Catherman Stumpf; and loving wife, Angie Holland Hooker.

James believed in working hard, loving deeply, and savoring the simple moments. In keeping with his wishes, his body will be cremated, and he will ultimately return to the coast of California he loved so dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL).

Messages of love and condolences may be shared with the family at www.martin-hightower.com. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Hooker family during this time.
