James Powell Obituary
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. in the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home 301 E. Blancke Street, Linden. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Final disposition will be private.
Jim joined the Linden Police Department in 1967, going through the ranks of the department before making detective and retiring in 1998 after 31 years of service. Following retirement he worked for the Linden Housing Authority as an inspector tor the Section 8 housing from 1998 to 2015.
He served our county in the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Intrepid.
Jim was on the board of the Linden Fire and Police credit union, office for the Environmental Commission for Linden, a member of the Glenn Wood Country Club and the Linden Chapter of Men of Distinction. He enjoyed skiing, golfing, boating, spending time at his home in the Pocono's and meeting family and friends at the Linden House Diner and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Jim was the loving husband of 50 years to the late Patricia (Patty) Nisky Powell who passed away in 2015. He was the loving father to James Powell and his partner Siddhartha (Sid) and Mary Ann Powell. Cherished grandfather to Matthew J. Hirsch and Dr. Micah E. Hirsch. Dear brother to Cynthia Nauyo, Deborah Powell Apito and her husband Steve and the late Suzanne Powell. Brother In-law to Mitzie Tamayo, Debra Babeu and her husband Richard, Janie Martis, Cathy Martis, Edward R. Martis and his wife Kathleen and Dolores Nisky. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers donations to Alzheimer's Association in his name would be appreciated.

So sorry for you loss.
I vividly remember, Officer Jimmy Powell, patrolling our 8th Ward (Linden) neighborhood.
He was a great guy! The BEST!
We actually always looked forward to his arrival, in our area, on his Honda patrol bike!
We would miss him, on his days-off!
Rest in Peace, Jimmy Powell.
