James Stayrook Obituary

James was born on March 3, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Eugene Stayrook and Anna Kary. After graduating from high school, he began his career at Bethlehem Steel, where he worked as a skilled millwright.
James had a lifelong love for the outdoors and was happiest with a fishing pole in hand. He enjoyed coaching Little League when his boys were young, served his community as a member of the local fire department, an active member of the Old Timers Club and co-founder of the Kankakee Valley Bass Busters. For the past 22 years, James shared his life with his beloved companion, Patricia Fase, with whom he made many cherished memories.
He is survived by his sons, Keith (Jennifer) Stayrook and Nathan (Lori) Stayrook; six grandchildren-Tyler, Blake, Bane, Bohen, Briker, and Madeline Stayrook; and five great-grandchildren-Delilah, Luke, Finley, Benjamin, and Rian; his partner Patricia's daughter, Lisa and grandchildren Megan & Alex who all held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his brothers-Stanley, Nicholas, Rodney, and Steven Stayrook.
James was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Christian Stayrook.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life at 12:00 p.m. at Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte.

Patty-such a shock to hear of Jim´s passing. My thoughts are with you. Gene & I had memories of fun at Boundary Waters, our Covid parties, the trip to Saugatuk, & we were always grateful for all your help when we moved. Jim is now on one long heavenly fishing trip & hopefully having some beers with those guys that are already there.
