James Thomas Obituary

James A. Thomas, age 81, of Erie, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025. He was born in Logansport, IN on August 31, 1944, son of Earl Thomas and Edith Thomas Mattix and stepson of Walter Mattix.
Jim was a graduate of Toccoa Falls Bible College in Georgia. He was a strong man of faith and active at the First Alliance Church, where he served as Head Usher for over 20 years. Jim was employed at General Electric for over 40 years as a cab assembler and cab washer prior to his retirement. He was a 6-year veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Jim was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by two children, Rebecca Evans (David) and Donald Thomas; three grandchildren, Kelly Frantz (David), Kerry Evans and Matthew Evans; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Thomas; one son, Daniel Thomas; two brothers, Boyden and Donald Thomas; his aunt, Thelma Benjamin; and two nephews.
Friends may call at the First Alliance Church, 2939 Zimmerly Road, on Friday, October 31st, from 11 am until the time of the Funeral Service there at 1 pm, conducted by Rev. Scott Shuffield. A private interment will follow at Erie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the PA Soldiers and Sailors Home Activity Fund, 560 East 3rd Street, Erie, PA 16507.
