Janene Booth Obituary

Janene Renee Booth passed away May 2nd, 2023 in Logan, Utah. She was born January 9th, 1960 to her parents Edwin Jerald and Rose Mary Booth in Fremont, Nebraska. When Janene was young she loved to climb trees, ride her bike, and enjoyed her pets Emily and Lucy. Emily started out as a baby chick given to her at age 3 for Easter. That fall, when Emily crowed, we realized the need to change the name to Elmer. Lucy was a small, black Terrier who followed Janene everywhere.

In grade school and junior high, Janene played the clarinet and was later involved in high school track. For four summers, Janene worked in the ever present cornfields, detasseling corn. This was a tough job in the humid summers, reaching the tall tassels on the corn and pulling them upwards to remove the tassel while avoiding the leaves, which would cut your arms and neck. It was an itchy and muddy job, but Janene made good money doing it. As a Girl Scout, Janene earned the rank of First Class, which at that time, was equivalent to an Eagle Scout for the boys. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1978.

The summer of 1979 Janene moved to Pocatello, Idaho to live with her sister, Vee, and brother-in-law, Brent. In January of 1980, she was excited to watch the birth of her nephew, Keith Hale. She loved her niece and four nephews very much. In the early 80’s, Janene moved to Ogden, Utah, and attended Weber State for three years. Janene worked hard and excelled at every job she had, from baking cookies at Albertson's bakery, working at McKay-Dee Hospital, and her favorite job, working at the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind. She grew very close to several of the children there and enjoyed teaching them life skills and tucking them into bed. She later worked for the IRS in Ogden for twenty years.

Janene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and received her endowment in the Salt Lake Temple. Her greatest desire was to be a wife and mother but it was not to be in this life. She loved children wherever she went. She was a 10 year survivor of breast cancer, but cancer raised its ugly head again in 2022 and she fought valiantly receiving chemo and radiation treatments. On April 14, 2023, Janene became a resident of Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah, until her death.

She is survived by her sister Vee (Brent) Hale of Logan, Utah; niece Annalyn (Douglas) Oberholtzer, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and nephews Aaron Hale of Raleigh, North Carolina; Keith Hale of Salt Lake City, Utah; Derek (Tristina) Hale of Logan, Utah, and their children Corbin and Dallas; and Scott (Elizabeth) Hale of Weiser, Idaho and their sons Elijah, Landon, Liam, and Micah.
