Janice "Peggy" Stauber, 89 years, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away early Friday December 6, 2024, at Sturgeon Bay Health Services.
She was born October 2, 1935, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Porter and Phyllis (Mathison) Gigstead. Peggy graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1953. On June 20, 1953, she married Ralph D. Stauber in Sturgeon Bay. While raising six children was a full-time position, Peggy helped with seasonal employment picking apples and cherries and working at Emerson.
She was a member of Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. Peggy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She liked bird watching and listening to polka music. Bingo was a favorite pastime as was word search and word circle puzzles. She also enjoyed making crafts and collecting China Cabinet treasures. Peggy was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
The surviving family includes her six children, Cyndi (Don) Heider, Steve Stauber, Laurie Graham, Mike (Terri) Stauber, Debbie (Joe) Neuville, Dave (Barb) Stauber; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary Gigstead, and Doug (Jan) Gigstead; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Porter and Phyllis Gigstead; husband, Ralph Stauber; and brother, Dean Gigstead.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday December 14, 2024. Entombment will take place in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Nicolet Memorial Gardens in the Town of Scott.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
Thanks to the staff at Sturgeon Bay Health Services, the past and present staff at Cherry Cove, Door County Medical Center, Dr. Antonio and Unity Hospice for the wonderful care given to our mother.
Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Foundation at donors.diabetes.org.
