Jay William Easterday, 86, passed away on November 2, 2024, in Smithfield, NC. Born on December 8, 1937 in Lehighton, PA, Jay led a life marked by dedication to his family, a distinguished career, and service to his country. He was married to his wife Judy for over 48 years and became a widower in 2009.
Jay served both in the US Navy and the US Army Reserves, embodying the values of loyalty and commitment inherent in a life of service. His professional life was equally commendable, spanning over 40 years with Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies. He was instrumental in traveling the world to set up trade shows for the telephone industry, showcasing his expertise and contributing significantly to his field.
Outside of his professional and military commitments, Jay was known for his great sense of humor and his joy in engaging in everyday activities. He loved grocery shopping to find the best deals, a testament to his savvy and practical nature. His hobbies included bowling, playing pinochle, pool, and golf. Jay meticulously planned his days around the TV sports schedule and was a familiar, teasing presence to the ladies at local grocery stores and gas stations. His pride in maintaining a perfect lawn was evident.
He is survived by his sons, Todd and his wife Debbie, Brett and his girlfriend Leesa; and daughter, Lynn and her husband, Bob. Jay was a proud grandfather to Cory, Troy, Erin, Brittany, Casey, and Courtney, and a proud great-grandfather to Billy, Scarlett C., Scarlett H., Chase, Cameron, Lily, Sophia, Chloe, and Troy Jr. He also leaves behind his sister, Martine Simonetti; sister-in-law, Caroline Forgione; and several nieces and nephews. Jay was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Weisbecker Easterday; son, Glenn Easterday; parents, Neri and Fern Easterday; brothers, William and Grant; and sister, Audrey.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 1 pm at Lehighton Cemetery in Lehighton, PA, where friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Jay's life and legacy.
