Jay Neiman Obituary

Charles "Jay" Neiman, of Broadus passed away August 26,2024 in Broadus at the age of 77. Jay was born February 24,1947 to Iris and Jim Neiman of the little Powder River area. His early elementary school years were spent in country school, later transferring to Broadus and graduating from Powder River County District High School in 1966. Jay enjoyed playing basketball, football and roping in his high school years. Jay went on to attend college in Havre, where he met Kathleen Frerich. Kathleen and Jay were married October 24,1968 at St Charles Catholic Church in Whitefish Montana. The couple moved to Broadus and welcomed daughter Lisa Marie in 1969 and son Patrick James "Pete" in 1970. Jay loved being a dad. He spent hours coaching baseball, playing "horse" in the driveway, golfing (even in the rain) and pulling us kids on waterskies.
While Jay and Kathleen owned and operated the Quarter Horse Hotel, he also worked for the Montana department of transportation and later for Alderman oil. This led him to a career in truck driving. He began driving for Texaco in 1988. Texaco gave the empty nesters a chance to travel the country. In the next 15 years the couple would reside in Watford City ND, Grand Junction CO, Gillette and Moorecroft WY, Sour Lake TX, and Yuma Az. Once in Yuma, Jay founded Neiman Trucking. Long haul driving suited his need to be moving constantly. In 2018 Jay retired from trucking and moved back to the only place he really felt at home, Broadus. The community welcomed him back with open arms and we the family are grateful for that. Highlights of his week included the rusty zipper coffee club, senior lunch on Wednesday, watching the "Rockies" and Sunday door holding at the Faith Bible Church.
Jay is survived by his daughter Lisa and her husband Glen Majors of Manhattan, MT; his son Pete Neiman of AZ. Sisters Katie (Bruce) Owen of Billings, MT and Susie (Lyle) Stempke of Bertrand,NE. Four grandsons: Matthew (Elizabeth) Majors and their son Henry of Bozeman, MT; Dalton Majors of Manhattan, MT; Joshua Majors of Belgrade, MT; and Dillion Register of Kingman, AZ. Numerous nieces and nephews including Scotty Owen of Cody, WY.
Jay was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Neiman as well as his parents Iris and Jim Neiman and nephew Casey Owen.
