Jeanne Marie (Herbert) Wynkoop transitioned to Heaven on December 11, 2024, with her family by her side. Born on December 10, 1938, she had just celebrated her 86th birthday the day before she met Jesus.
Born in Port Huron, MI, Jeanne graduated from Port Huron High School. She met her husband, Cecil, at the roller-skating rink. She married into a ready-made family with three stepchildren, whom she quickly accepted as her own, becoming simply "Mom" to them all. There was no such thing as "step" in our family. Two daughters later, we were a family of five children in a loving household.
Jeanne was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Freeman Herbert and Margaret (Vale) Mitchell; her daughter, DeAnne Morgan; her sister, Janet Vario; her husband, Cecil Wynkoop; and her granddaughter, Kristina (Wynkoop) Taylor.
Left behind to miss her are her surviving children, Willow Frosty, Leroy (Cindee) Wynkoop, Lawrence (Cat) Wynkoop, and Marci (Timothy) Balogh, 17 grandchildren, many, many great-grandchildren; her sister, Verna Course; brother, Dennis (Linda) Herbert, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Cecil and Jeanne moved to Charlevoix in 1974, where they built a home and raised their children. Jeanne was a stay-at-home mom until her children were grown. She worked at Glen's Market in Charlevoix for many years. After her daughter became Miss Charlevoix, Jeanne developed an interest in pageants and started the Northwest Michigan Pageant, where she served as the pageant director when JonBenet Ramsey won "Little Miss." After Cecil's death in 2006, Jeanne moved to Saint Johns, where she became involved with her Red Hat Ladies group. She loved doing crafts, and no one left her apartment without a tissue box made of plastic canvas and yarn.
Cremation services are provided by McGeehan Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 21, at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at Grace Bible Church of Owosso, 201 Michigan Ave, Owosso, MI 48867.
