Jeannette Marie Andel, 83, passed away peacefully at home in Binghamton, NY, on June 22, 2025 with her husband Peter, son Richard, and sister in law Mary Ferris by her side.
Born in Johnson City, NY, on August 6, 1941, Jeannette was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Peter, and her beloved son, Richard. She also leaves behind her brother Joseph, of Cary, NC, and her sister Lorraine, of San Diego, CA, as well as cherished sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Jeannette was an excellent student and 1959 graduate of Johnson City High School. She soon began what was to be a long career path at Columbia Gas Company, later acquired by New York State Electric and Gas. She received a degree at Broome Tech Community College, advanced in her career, and eventually retired from NYSEG.
A beautiful young woman, her engagement picture caught the eye of an editor at the Evening Press, and she and Peter were chosen to be featured in a Sunday bridal supplement, with photos of them meeting with local wedding vendors, shopping for bridal gowns, selecting items for their registry, cake tasting and choosing a honeymoon.
She found joy in time spent with family and friends, sailboating on Cayuga Lake, creating a warm and welcoming home, tending to her garden, knitting, and special moments shared with her beloved dog Puffin. She enjoyed her travels, but her heart lay in spending time on the coast of Maine, where she was often joined by various family members and friends.
Jeannette will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, her tasteful style, and ability to make friends everywhere she went. She will be fondly remembered and missed by many.
A memorial mass will be offered at Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect Street, Binghamton on October 15 at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Jeannette, please visit our floral store.
