Jeffrey Marsh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodlawn Funeral Home & Garden of Memories on Oct. 3, 2025.
Jeffrey Hugh Marsh, age 71, of Houston, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, August 24, 2025, surrounded by his children. He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all who were fortunate to share in his life. Born in Rockledge, Florida, Jeff grew up beside a 200-acre citrus grove where he spent countless hours fishing, hunting, and exploring. He graduated from Cocoa High School in 1972, continued at Brevard Community College, and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Florida. In 1977, Jeff moved to Houston where he completed his law degree at South Texas College of Law. During that time, he was one of three students selected to travel to Washington, D.C., for a weeklong observation of the Supreme Court, including an interview with Justice William Rehnquist. September 1985 marked three major life milestones for Jeff: he started his first law firm, bought his first house, and welcomed his first child. A friend remarked, "Jeff, you don't do anything haphazardly," and he simply replied, "It's not like I'm trying-it's just the way it happened." During his career as a successful civil litigator, he was respected for his integrity, sharp legal mind, and strong courtroom presence. In his later years, he served as an attorney for Child Protective Services, where his commitment to protecting children and families made a lasting impact. Beyond his professional life, Jeff was dedicated to community and fellowship. He became a Freemason in 2009, was raised to the degree of Master Mason in 2010, and served as Worshipful Master of Bellaire Lodge #1336 A.F. & A.M. from 2015–2016. He was a beloved and respected member of the lodge and will be missed by his brethren. Sports were a constant through Jeff's life. A talented athlete since childhood, Jeff earned recognition in the local newspaper for pitching a no-hitter in baseball, and back-to-back undefeated seasons in basketball. An accomplished golfer, he achieved the rare feat of scoring two hole-in-ones, the first in 1998 at Braeburn Country Club, and the most recent in 2018 at Memorial Park Golf Course. He also enjoyed tennis and racquetball, frequently competing in tournaments with his closest friends. As a runner, he regularly took part in the Houston Marathon, the Dinosaur Dash, the Crescent City Classic, and, in 2005, the New York City Marathon. Jeff especially loved college football and all things related to his Florida Gators. He also supported athleticism in his children, serving as a coach for all of their teams, including baseball, soccer, basketball, and flag football. In 1997, Jeff traveled to Scotland, the birthplace of golf, playing the renowned Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links, and Royal Troon. In 2005, he traveled to Pamplona, Spain, where he participated in the Running of the Bulls. Jeff cherished traveling and visiting his family and friends across the country. He enjoyed annual trips to fly fish and grouse hunt. His family fondly remembers cruises to the Caribbean and traveling to China in 2007, and they are grateful he recorded the details of his travels in his journal. Above all, Jeff treasured his family and friends. He believed in the importance of having family dinners every night and found his greatest joy in sharing meals with those he loved. He took pride in raising his children in a safe and supportive neighborhood and saw providing that stability as one of his most meaningful roles as a father. His love, guidance, and unwavering support enriched the lives of his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, his warmth, humor, and generosity of spirit will be remembered and cherished by all whose lives he touched. Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, Barney, and Jean Marsh; his brother, Greg Marsh; and his nephew, Chris Moon. He is survived by his daughter, Marion Marsh Shoeffield (Steven); his son, Jeffrey Hugh Marsh Jr. (Alexandra); his stepson, William Luke Marine (Kimberley); his daughter, Melissa McLean Marsh (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Joseph and Robert; his sister, Tena Rogers (Aubrey); his nephew, Sohn Moon, and his grandniece Alysa.
