Lois Maxine Rowden, age 95, of Meta, was born August 22, 1929, in Maries County, MO, a daughter of Howell Loren and Amy Viola (Adkins) Burd, and passed from this life on Wednesday November 6, 2024, at the University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia.
She was united in marriage on June 4, 1949, at Vienna, to Harold Edward Rowden, who preceded her in death on November 7, 2019.
Lois was a member of the Wheeler Church of Christ. She started her working career in 1978 as a cook at Mason Ridge School, she then went on to be a librarian at Maries R-1, while she continued her education to become a teacher. After finishing her degree, Lois was a teacher for fourteen years, retiring in 1992. Throughout her working life, Lois was also a devoted mother and housewife.
Those left to mourn the passing of Lois include: her children, Kevin Rowden and wife, Sherry, of rural Meta; Randy Rowden and wife, Charlotte, of Vienna; Keith Rowden and wife, Patty, of rural Meta, and Rhonda Slone and husband, Dwight, of Vienna; one brother, Don Burd and wife, Joyce, of Dixon; two sisters; Janice Martin, of Iberia, and Linda Spillars and husband, Elmer, of Dixon; eight grandchildren, Travis and Amber Rowden; Blake and Amanda Rowden; Amie and William Snodgrass; Darcie and Brian Rehagen; Danielle and Shawn Curtis; Seth and Olivia Rowden; Monica and Justin Watkins; and Matthew Slone; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nephews; nieces; great-nephews; great-nieces; and many other relatives and a host friends.
In addition to her husband, Harold, she was preceded in death by her father, Howell on January 30, 1990; her mother, Amy on April 27, 1997; two sisters, Wanda D'Angelo on March 21, 1979, and Leila Ruth Bassett on June 24, 2022; brothers-in-law, Willis Dean Bassett on August 21, 2018, and Gene Martin on October 8, 2017; one great-grandson, Evan Curtis on October 15, 2022.
Visitation for Mrs. Lois Rowden will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Friday, November 8, 2024, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 406 South Main Street, Vienna, Missouri 65582, with her funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., with Bro. Kevin Rowden officiating.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Lois Rowden will be Travis Rowden, Amie Snodgrass, Monica Watkins, Darcie Rehagen, Matthew Slone, Blake Rowden, Danielle Curtis, and Seth Rowden. Honorary pallbearers for Mrs. Lois Rowden will be William Snodgrass, Brian Rehagen, Shawn Curtis, and Justin Watkins.
Interment for Mrs. Lois Rowden will be beside her loving husband in Wheeler Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Lois Rowden are suggested by her family to the Wheeler Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
