Jessie Hayes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Berkley Chapel on Nov. 8, 2025.
Jessie Mae Hayes peacefully transitioned into the loving Father's hands of rest on Thursday, November 6, 2025. She was born on April 5, 1932, in Princess Anne County, Virginia, to the late Magie Lena and Lloyd Wesby, Sr.

Jessie Mae was born into a large family of eleven siblings; she was the knee baby of her family. She was predeceased by her husband, the late James L. Hayes; and siblings, Lloyd Wesby, Jr., Frank, Clarence, Anderson, Elizabeth, Henda, Nettie, Thelma, Ethel, and Sarah Waters.

She leaves to cherish her memories her only daughter, Tremeka N. Hayes (Anthony); grandsons, Marvel A. Land, Jr. and Marquin D. Land (Barbara); great-grandson, Marquin, Jr.; nieces, Brenda Waters of VA Beach, Linda Benny Kenneth, James and Leona, Anderson, Jr. and June Wesby, Jr., Janet Wesby of Virginia Beach, Ann and Clarence, Jr. and James Wesby and great niece and nephews. Shelia Wesby, Yolanda and Wanda, Vernell Waters of Portsmouth, Keshia and Brenetta Waters, Antoinette Fredrick and Leslie Cole and Ola Nichols, and Lizzetta M. Bynum, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and friends. A special companion, Sugar Bear (Dog).

Jessie Mae was a great mother, friend, and cook. She loved her family and friends with her whole heart, she enjoyed cooking and laughing, and bringing her family together for meals. She had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off her back and feed you, too. Jessie adored her grandsons and loved her dog Sugar Bear.

Jessie Mae was tough as nails. But gentle as a dove, she was a loving person, and so grateful for the small things, she will be truly missed, and every memory of the family gathering, birthdays, and laughter will be cherished by her family. Jessie Mae was old school and a Beacon of light; she was the matriarch of the family.

If anybody knew Jessie Mae Hayes, she would say: "Sock to the fox to the Bear Doom Deer." We will miss her dearly and cherish all of her memories in our hearts. We will never forget you! Rest In Peace. Jessie Mae Hayes.
