Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kernodle Funeral Home - Wynne on Nov. 26, 2024.
It is with both immeasurable earthly sorrow and boundless spiritual joy that the family of Jim Sugg share that he completed the race set before him on November 23, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home in
Wynne, Arkansas. Our earthly sorrow comes from the absence of his physical presence that continuously uplifted our lives through Christian precept, example, support, and agape love. Our spiritual joy is born of our faith in God, rewarded by His blessing of a long life to the righteous, the gift of salvation, and the promise of everlasting life after death for those who believe in Him.
Jim walked with God, living by faith and according to His word. He was a good and faithful servant, leader, teacher, counselor, and ever-present, never-ceasing prayer warrior supporting his church, his community, and his family. Jim's light brightly shined throughout his life, serving as a beacon of hope, faith, and promise to all who were blessed to know him. Second only to Jim's faith was his unconditional and limitless love for his family, a love that was rooted in abiding love, devotion, and commitment to Lou, his one-flesh: child-hood sweetheart, wife, helpmate, friend, partner, and confidant for over 72 years. His quiver was full, bequeathing an enduring legacy of 67 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren trained in the way they should go and empowered to serve God, their communities, and each other.
Jim lived most of his life in Wynne, graduating from Wynne High School in 1952 after being a key member of Wynne High School's 1950 State Championship football team. He went on to become a highly successful entrepreneur and talented carpenter, building custom homes throughout the area, enriching the community, and providing meaningful jobs to both old and new friends. Jim was ever-present in church as a leader, teacher, and song leader, with his rich baritone voice powerfully resonating the grace in his heart for the Lord. He lived an active lifestyle and was a consummate mentor across diverse disciplines. Jim became a skilled hunter and man of the field, instilling in others a profound appreciation of God's natural gifts and wonders. Secondary to his spiritual mentorship, perhaps no other actions were more impactful than how he shared his life-long passion for camping, hunting, and fishing with his children, family members, and friends. Throughout every aspect of his life, Jim walked with the wise with his light shining before men, glorifying his Father in heaven.
Jim was born on December 5, 1934, and passed away on November 23, 2024, at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his beloved youngest child, Christy Ann Sugg Moery. His surviving family members include his wife, Ollie Lou Sugg of
Wynne, Arkansas; his son, Jimmy Sugg of Jonesboro, Arkansas; his daughter, Kathy Sugg of Lubbock, Texas; his daughter, Jan Murphy of Lubbock, Texas; and his daughter, Judy Miller of Fredericksburg, Virginia; 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on November 30, 2024, at Wynne Baptist from 2 to 3 pm. Funeral services will follow at 3 pm with Rev. Bob Fant and Rev. Matt Dunavant officiating. Burial will be in Cogbill Cemetery. Kernodle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. You may sign an online guestbook at www.kernodlefh.com
