Jimmie W. Hawk, Beloved Franklin Resident, Passes Away Franklin, IN – Jimmie W. Hawk, a cherished member of the Franklin community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on September 7, 1946, in Greenwood, Indiana, to Flemon and Rissie Mae (Stephens) Hawk, Jimmie was a long time Franklin resident. He married Karen G. (House) Hawk on February 14, 1969, and she survives. Jimmie is survived by his son, Wayne Hawk (Kari); daughter, Denise "Dee Dee" Strait (Allen); and his beloved grandchildren, Natalie Smith (Dylan), Tori Hawk, Riley Hawk, Samantha Strait, and David Strait. He was preceded in death by his parents. A 1966 graduate of Whiteland High School, Jimmie proudly served in the United States National Guard. He dedicated over 28 years of his life to Franklin Community High School, working in the maintenance department. His tireless efforts, often seen in the form of painting classrooms and maintaining the baseball and football fields, left a lasting impact on the school community. Beyond his professional life, Jimmie was deeply involved in his community. He was active supporting the Little League, demonstrating his passion for youth sports. He also served as Clerk at the Greenwood Friends (Quaker) meeting house, reflecting his strong faith and commitment to service. In his retirement, Jimmie embraced his role as a loving grandfather, finding joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He also developed a passion for baking, often surprising loved ones with delicious cheesecakes. Additionally, he enjoyed painting, gardening, and woodworking. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of a man who touched so many hearts with his kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 2:30 PM at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM on the same day at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. To share condolences and memories, please visit www.flinnmaguire.net.
