Joan Schmidt Obituary

Joan K. Schmidt, 86, of Marblehead, OH passed away peacefully Monday, March 24, 2025 at Edgewood Manor Healthcare Center, Port Clinton, OH, after a long illness. She was born in the Marblehead Hospital on January 7, 1939, the daughter of Karl and Veronica (Kukay) Schmidt. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Schmidt. Joan was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead where she served as one of the first female ushers for many years. Throughout her life, fisherman knew her as the one to go to for her craft in cleaning perch and walleye. She previously was an employee at various Marblehead Peninsula restaurants and Bill's Place at Marblehead Point, a family boat livery and mercantile. Joan cared about putting good in the world, helping others, she took time to appreciate the simple things in life, enjoyed family and friends, and was known for her baking. She loved her dogs, cats, photography, puzzles, reading and boat watching. She had a talent for drawing and loved wildlife. She was always informed of the world and current events and was always proud of her local hometown area.
Surviving are her Goddaughter, Elaine Karamol and her niece, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Joseph Szybka at 10:00 am Saturday, March 29, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay, Marblehead, OH with visitation at the church on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery, Marblehead, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to Southern Care Hospice, 9501 US Hwy 250 N Suite 2, Milan, OH 44846, Humane Society of Ottawa County, 2424 E. Sand Rd.
