Joann Kinney, aged 83, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024, at her home in Goldonna, Louisiana. Born on April 5, 1941, in Urania, Louisiana, Joann lived a life of compassion and dedication, deeply committed to her family and community.
In 1957, Joann married Billy Ray Kinney and moved to Buffalo, New York, where she began her career as a nurse while her husband served in the military. Returning to Louisiana, she dedicated herself to caring for her community at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania, working alongside Dr. Sanders and later with Dr. L.R. Collier for over two decades. Her legacy of skill, kindness, and commitment to her patients is fondly remembered.
Upon retirement, Joann enjoyed life at home, tending to her garden, hunting, and spending time with her family. A member of Grace Baptist Church, her faith was a guiding force in her life.
Joann is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Ray Kinney; her father, Rev. E. D. Dearmon; her mother, Annie Mae Johnson Dearmon; her brother, Elton Dearmon; and her sister, Judy Williams. She is survived by her son, William Kinney and wife, Liza; her daughter, Angela Johnson and husband, Barry, of Goldonna, Louisiana; her grandchildren, Emily Nobles and Christopher Bordelon; and her great-grandchildren, Jameson Nobles, Reece and Rilynn Johnson, Bradon, Waylon, and Hayden Lawson.
Pallbearers honored to carry Joann to her final resting place include Bo Johnson, Heath Sampey, Joshua Sampey, Eugene Garner, Lee Johnson, and Robbie Tyler, with T-Boy Sampey and Harold Buckley serving as honorary pallbearers.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Joann's life with visitation at Southern Funeral Home on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Myron Thompson and Rev. Larry Carr officiating. Joann will be laid to rest at New Union Cemetery.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hand In Hand Hospice and Lagniappe Home Health for their compassionate care. Expressions of sympathy and condolences may be shared with the family at www.southernfuneralhome.com.
