Jody Shelby Sumrall, 60, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.  Jody was born in Memphis on March 27, 1963, to Joseph D. and Merrill Mansell Cashion.  She grew up in Memphis and graduated high school in Pittsburg, PA.  On June 6, 1987, she married Tim Sumrall, and she worked as a preschool teacher for 20 years helping to mold many young lives.  Jody loved landscaping and had an exceptional green thumb for her flowerbeds.  She absolutely adored her grandchildren, and when it came to “Lollie’s” house, nothing mattered. She enjoyed going to the Gilmore Wellness Center where she made many friends.  She loved to keep her hummingbirds fed and took great care of her dogs who she referred to as “The Boys,” Rico, Jaxx, and Ole Man.  She was member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bobby Cleveland and Pastor Justin Myers officiating. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 5 until 7 p.m.

In addition to her husband, Tim Sumrall of Greenwood Springs, she is survived two sons, Joey Sumrall (Mary) of Tupelo and Chris Sumrall (Amanda) of Hatley; her sister, Cinny Verhaak (Jerre McCloskey) of Memphis; grandchildren, Griffin Sumrall, Laila Williams, Allie Claire Sumrall, and Parker Sumrall; her father-in-law, Carl Sumrall of Laurel, MS; sister-in-law, Connie Baria (John) of Hurley, MS; and special friends, Donna King and Claude and Kimberly Walters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and mother-in-law, Mary Ann Sumrall.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Gideons’ International.
