John Mark Benson was born on September 10, 1953, in Newberry, Michigan, to Gordon and Evelyn (Maki) Benson. He grew up in Jefferson, Wisconsin, and completed ten years of schooling.
John is survived by his brother Richard Benson and his wife, Amy, of Titonka, Iowa; his brother Franklin Benson of Garden, Michigan; his sisters Eva Doucette of Scarborough, Maine; Jenifer Kallio and her husband Gordon of Valparaiso, Indiana; and Christine Ferrin of Hamilton, Michigan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
As the third son in a family of eight, John left home at the age of 16 and traveled across the United States, living in Minneapolis, MN, Wisconsin, and Mason City, IA. He had a deep love for music and enjoyed sharing stories of his travels, often embellishing them with colorful tales.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Robert Benson and Theodore Benson.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Titonka Care Center for the compassion and care they provided John during his eleven-month stay.
