Mr. John Wesley Davis, 88, died Friday, November 7, 2025, at his home in Oxford, MS, surrounded by family. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Quarles and Rev. Fish Robinson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service in West Hall from 11:30 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Davis was born in Oxford, MS to the late Aaron Dunn and Ray Mathis Davis. After graduating from University High School, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, reaching the status of Platoon Sergeant. Prior to starting his own business, John Davis Construction, he began his construction career with Pat W. Haley. John attended Community Church of Oxford. He was currently the President of the Board of Directors for Northeast Mississippi Electric Power Association where he has served as a board member since 1992. Additionally, he served on the board of directors for Old Methodist Campground and was a founding member, president, and manager of Punkin Water Association and was a member of Gideons International.
As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and was proud to boast his list of every crow he killed in 1961! John shared his love and appreciation of nature with his family and, as the family leader, he took great joy in taking care of his precious daughters and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Ann Davis, sister, Martha Jean McManus; and brother, Jimmy Davis.
Mr. John is survived by his daughters, Dee Anna Chain (Jay), of Oxford, and Lisa Carwyle (Richard), of Oxford; sister, Suzie Hatcher of Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren, Lindsey Ann Jenkins (Will), John Michael Hill (Mary Clark), Davis Carwyle, Hannah Carwyle and was eagerly awaiting the upcoming arrival of his first great grandchild, Mary Davis Jenkins.
