On January 1st, 2025, John Louis Dorman Sr., our beloved pawpaw, daddy, and friend, passed away at the age of 88. Despite the loss of his daughter Glenda Ann Dorman, his wife Shirley Drewett Dorman, and his youngest son Darren Patrick Dorman Sr., he lived a wonderful life filled with rich and colorful experiences. Although he gave specific instructions not to mourn his passing, he was cherished deeply and loved dearly by many and will be missed greatly.

He enjoyed LSU football but loved LSU baseball. He coached both sports in Greenlawn for many years, and it was without question one of his many passions in life.

He grew up in the Irish Channel in New Orleans, LA, and spent every St. Patrick’s Day in Annunciation Square surrounded by friends from the neighborhood, where they would reminisce and create more memories together.

He joined the Air Force in 1954, which is where his career as an electronic technician began. He was an exceptional technician who witnessed firsthand the transformation of technology, evolving from vacuum tubes to transistors, to microprocessors. Throughout his career and retirement, he enjoyed collecting parts and tools and experimenting with new and old ways of repairing items.

He is survived by his brother Tim Dorman; his sons John Louis Dorman Jr. and Michael Timothy Dorman; and his daughter Mary Ann Dorman Woodall. His grandchildren Lacie Renee Woodall, Thomas Virgil Woodall Jr., Samuel Charles Woodall, Sandra Lee Perk, Marlaina Ann Addison, Ellis Leon Dorman, and Darren Patrick Dorman Jr. He is also preceded in death by his great-grandchildren Katelyn Renee Perk, Angel LeeAnn Addison, Charles Brian Burks Jr., Christopher Louis Burks, Amara Grace Woodall, Gabriel Francis Woodall, and Jordan Dorman. He is also survived by his dearest friends, William “Bill” Power, also known as “Uncle Bill” and James “Jimmy” Bravender, also known as “Uncle Jimmy” by the family.

We will all miss you immensely and forever hold onto our memories with you. Your strength will serve as a reminder to push forward through hard times such as this one. The feeling of your unconditional love will motivate each one of us to be kind and selfless. Even more, your wisdom will forever be our guiding light as we journey through life.
