John Harmon Obituary

John Ralph Harmon, age 74, of North East, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born in Erie on November 2, 1949, son of the late Ralph and Marilyn Harmon.
John graduated from East High School and then joined the US Navy, where he served as an Aviation Electrician's Mate Second Class. He served during the Vietnam War on the USS America and USS Kitty Hawk. John then worked at General Electric for over 30 years in shipping and renewal parts. He was an active member of the American Legion, was an avid golfer and bowled in a league for almost 20 years. John enjoyed fishing, cooking, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed a reunion with members of Navy Squadron RVAH 6, whom he served with in Vietnam.
John is survived by three children, Michael Harmon, Stephen Harmon (Melissa) and Sarah M. Smiley (Michael); four brothers, James Harmon, Gerald Harmon (Mary), Daniel Harmon (Cindy) and George Harmon (Mary); ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Harmon.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Friday, November 1st, from 3 to 6 pm. A private interment will be held.

John, his Brother Jim, Friend Larry, and I went on a Guys Trip to my Condo in Florida some years ago. On the way, we stopped to visit his son (Michael) at the Virginia Beach Naval Base. Michael gave us a great tour of the Base and saw many impressive War Ships, especially the USS Enterprise.
We then went to my Condo and had a ball doing things like fishing the Atlantic Surf at Merritt Island National Seashore.
It was a great time that makes me smile whenever I think about it.
John was one of the Good Guys!
