John Joseph Hinds, 62, of Culver, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Valparaiso, Indiana, John was the son of the late Penny Hinds and Donald Hinds. While he graduated from Knox High School, he was largely self-taught and defined by his hard work and ingenuity. He first applied these skills when he began working at the age of 16 in his father's business, a path that led him to run a couple of his own businesses later in life.
John was the quintessential jack of all trades, a gifted mechanic, and a true craftsman who could build or fix anything he set his mind to. He had an innate talent for working with wood, creating beautiful pieces that will serve as lasting testaments to his skill. His greatest joy in life was his children and grandchildren, who meant everything to him, and he was known throughout his life for his selfless nature, always willing to drop everything to help anyone in need. He found joy in simple pleasures, often spending time on the water with his children and grandchildren, taking them tubing on the river or boating. He also loved following the motocross circuit, particularly the roar of the engines at RedBud in Michigan and sharing his passion for racing with his family at J&V Racing.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Penny Hinds.
John's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his father, Donald Hinds; his siblings, Jim Hinds (Kris), Diana Phillips, and Cindy Rossner (Shawn); his three devoted children: Justin Jacob Hinds (Heather), Valerie Nicole Hinds, and Alisa "Aj" Hinds; his beloved grandchildren, Jaelyn Hinds, Gage Hinds, Hayden Hinds, and Braxton Atkinson; his Aunt Irene Butler; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Cremation is being handled by Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be announced by the family at a later date.
