Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kessler Fahrenkrug Funeral Home - Neenah on Oct. 25, 2024.
John E. Kobinsky, 95, passed to heaven peacefully in his sleep on October 23, 2024, after spending the day with Ruth, his wife of 70 years, and his three children.
Born in Neenah on May 14, 1929, he was the son of the late John F. Kobinsky and Catherine A. (McGuire) Kobinsky. He married the former Ruth Ann Hasley of Oshkosh on December 26, 1953.
John retired from a supervisory position at Marathon/American Can Co./James River after a 40+ year career. Over the years, John, Ruth and sons purchased and restored 31 homes in Neenah and Menasha, then renting them.
John served as board member and secretary for the Fox Valley Apartment Assn., vice president of the Litho Club of Northeastern Wisconsin, president of John-Ru Inc., financial secretary for the Society of St. Vincent DePaul-St. Patrick Conference, Pack/Troop leader for Cub and Boy Scouts, and volunteered in various roles at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Menasha.
Following retirement, he launched All Carrier Express serving airlines at Appleton International Airport.
Serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, John was a key member of Brigadier General Peterson's staff. He joined fellow soldiers in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in recognition of his service.
John and Ruth, during their 70 years together, loved to travel and visited 16 countries, plus sailed upon eight ocean cruises.
Always enjoying a classic game of cards with his Poker Club buddies, woodworking projects in his basement (his specialty: Leopold benches and bird houses), hunting deer and small game birds, John was always involved in adventures. He could also be spotted at the YMCA pool swimming laps.
With his boys and encouragement from his daughters, he designed, then built a unique A-Frame cottage on Lake Oneonta in Marinette County. "The A" was his favorite place to hunt, relax, and work on projects.
Preceded in death by daughter Jane, sister Dorothy, and brother Charles, John's survivors are wife Ruth, children Tom (Darcy), Jack (Emily), and Karen (Rich) and their combined eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
