John Marvin Sevy, 89, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born in Peculiar, Missouri, January 27, 1935, to the late John Henry and Velma Mae Nevis Sevy. He graduated from Louisburg High School in Kansas.
In his early years, John was Assistant Manager at A&P Grocery before studying tool & die and beginning an apprenticeship at Westinghouse Gas Turbine Division. He then joined the U.S. Army. His service included sixteen months as a squad leader in Korea and duty on the Fort Stewart Honor Guard. He attained the rank of Staff Sgt. during his three-year enlistment. John finished his tool & die apprenticeship at Faith Tool & Die. His employment included Whirlpool in Evansville and Kentucky Electronics where he was tool room manager. He then helped start, and served as president of Toolco, Inc, at the time a division of Anderson Windows. He also served as general manager at Service Tool & Mold and Royster Machine, both in Henderson. Most recenty, he served as general manager of Hausner Hard Chrome.
At the age of 70, the power of God took over John’s life. He joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was baptized and sang in the choir. John also joined the Gideons, telling his life story and spreading God’s word in many churches across Kentucky until he was physically unable.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael R. Sevy and a brother, Harold Sevy.
Loved ones left behind include his loving wife of 67 years, Pearl; son, Danny R. Sevy (Gayle); grandsons, Joshua and Jonathan Sevy; granddaughters, Micah Ruiz (Jacob) and Taylor Thompson (Jessie); sister, Clara Mae Morgan; daughter-in-law, Jenna Jagoe; several nieces and nephews; and extended family, Colleen and Shirley “Gran” Allen.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 14 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from Noon until the time of service. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
