John H. Shank, age 98, of Charleston, WV, formerly of Vienna, WV passed away Friday, April 18, 2025 at his residence.

He was born November 17, 1926, in Point Pleasant, WV, a son of the late Ernest C. and Frances Henderson Shank. John was a graduate of Racine High School and Ohio University. He entered the service in the Army Air Corp in April 1945 and was discharged in December 1946 as a corporal. After college he taught science and coached basketball and other sports at Olive – Orange High School, Tuppers Plains, OH and Marietta High School, Marietta, OH. John was a State Farm Agent in Vienna for over 40 years and a member of the Vienna Baptist Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Parkersburg and Christ Church in Charleston. He was active in numerous civic organizations including Vienna Lions Club, a founding member of the Vienna Noon Lions Club, was one of the initial member of the WV State Ethics Masonic Commission and a member of the WV Masonic Lodge #172 in Vienna.

John is survived by his son, John E. Shank of Charleston, WV; his grandson, Ryan M. Shank (Melanie) of Clarksville, TN and two great-grandchildren, Scottie Jo and Atticus Theodore Shank.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Anna B. Shank and his brother, James Shank.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kanawha Charleston Humane Society in John’s memory.
