Jose Ignacio Montoy, a beloved figure in the Tucson community and a cherished family member, passed away on November 25, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on March 22, 1951, in San Ignacio, Sonora, Mexico, he led a life rich with experiences, joy, and an unwavering passion for music.
For over 20 years, Jose dedicated himself to the Chicago Music Store, where he poured his heart into the music industry. He took great pride in his career, reveling in the connections he made along the way with many talented musicians. Jose's love for music was evident not only in his professional life but also in the countless memories he created while playing in a band during his youth.
Jose was a spontaneous and energetic individual who brought laughter and warmth to those around him. He had a special affection for children, particularly his nieces and nephews, who eagerly anticipated the joy of receiving a big bear hug from their treasured "Tio Nacho." His playful spirit and delightful energy made him a beloved uncle, and his infectious laughter will surely be missed.
In his later years, Jose often reflected fondly on his childhood memories spent in San Ignacio, sharing stories that turned his past into heartfelt celebrations of family and life. He delighted in his trips to Magdalena de Kino and Puerto Peñasco, which became treasured escapes filled with lasting memories. An enthusiast of antiques, he found joy in collecting items that held historical significance and a story of their own.
Jose is survived by his sons, Jose Ignacio Montoy Dicochea and German Montoy; his sister, Maria Cecilia Montoy; his brothers, Jesus Manuel Montoy, Rafael Montoy, Jesus Montoy, Luis Fernando Montoy, and Jose Martin Montoy; along with five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
