Sheila "Nana" Mae Wistner, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 18, 2025 while surrounded by her loving family at the Main Methodist Hospital, located in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on April 4, 1946 in San Francisco, California.
Sheila was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. As the firstborn child in a proud military family, she had a spirit of adventure that would carry her across the world. For over twenty years, she embraced the life of a military dependent, moving from place to place with grace and resilience.
Throughout her journey, Sheila lived in many corners of the world. Puerto Rico, California, Utah, Germany, Indiana, and finally, Texas. It was in Texas where she chose to plant her roots and stay. No matter where she went, she carried home with her in the way she cared for others, created beauty in the ordinary, and found joy in the simple things in life.
Sheila was a woman of many talents and passions. Whether it was tri-cam, needlepoint, cake decorating, photography, window painting, bowling, or her love of reading. She had a knack for learning new things and finding happiness in small details. Her sense of humor and her warm spirit made her a joy to be around, and her laughter was contagious.
She spent several years working at the Air Force Base before finding her calling with the U.S. Border Patrol. As a dispatcher in the radio room, she brought dedication, warmth, and a touch of humor to those long days and nights. She loved her job and the people she worked with, and she took great pride in what she did. Sheila retired in 2013, In her retirement, she found happiness in the simple things, like time with her family, conversations with friends, and the comfort of home.
She was endlessly proud of her two incredible daughters and loved her family with her whole heart. Her legacy lives on through her daughters and their families, her amazing sons-in-law, three beautiful granddaughters, and two adorable great-grandsons.
Sheila's life was one filled with love, laughter, and light. Though she has gone home to rest, her presence will forever be felt in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ruth and Daniel Bowline.
Family members left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Ruthi Holland and husband Mark Holland of Marietta, GA, and Pamela Geis and husband Ray Geis of Del Rio; grandchildren: Cara Creger (John), Crista Bodai (Sean), and Sheanne Geis-Espinoza (Marques); siblings: Karan Hughes of Maumelle, AR, and Daniel "Skip" Bowline of Winston-Salem, NC; Sheila is also survived by 2 great grandsons, other close relatives and many friends.
Sheila's final wishes were to be cremated.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Church of Christ, located at 402 W. Cantu Road. Officiating will be Pastor Derek Boyle, Sr.
A Farewell Tribute will be rendered by the United States Customs and Border Protection Honor Guard.
A luncheon provided by the Church will follow.
