Joseph Harold College, 90, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Monday, October 7, 2024 in Hagerstown, MD. Born August 5, 1934 in Duffield, PA he was the son of the late Roland and Janet (Hassler) College.
Mr. College served with the United States Air Force from December 9, 1953 until his honorable retirement January 1, 1974. During his tenure with the Air Force he was chief of the fire department and taught many different training courses to other members of the Air Force. He was a proud and generous supporter of many different veterans’ organizations throughout his lifetime. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a mechanic, an electrician and most recently as a maintenance man for Menno Haven. There wasn’t much that he couldn’t fix.
He was a member of Mountain Top Ministries, Orrtanna, PA. Mr. College was an avid sports fan and could usually be found checking the score on his phone. He loved following the Baltimore Orioles, Penn State Football and many other teams.
He is survived by his wife, Marion (McMullen) College; daughter, Kerrie Young and her husband Patrick of Williamson, PA; a step-daughter, Toni McMullen of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Eric Jensen, Holly Jensen, Hailey Young, and Alyssa Young; three siblings, Helen, Roy, and Nancy College; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Vera (Glynn) College in 1988; daughter, Kim Jensen in 2004; and two siblings, Bill and Jane College.
Services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 16, 2024 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastors Ken Reid and Ron Parr officiating. Burial will be held 2:00 PM, October 16, 2024 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Rd, Annville, PA 17003.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, 755 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to Mountain Top Ministries, 200 Church Rd, Orrtanna, PA 17353.
