Joseph J. Cyrulik, a man of remarkable character and spirit, passed away peacefully at his home in Somers, NY on October 14, 2024. Born on August 31, 1942, in Yonkers, NY, to the late Joseph Martin and Mary Rose (Washienko) Cyrulik, Joe lived a life dedicated to his family, his community, and his country.
Joe attended Charles E. Gorton High School in Yonkers, NY. After graduation, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1963 as a Missile Technician 2nd Class. On May 8, 1971, he married the love of his life, Andrea Rose (Poppa) Cyrulik and together they raised two sons, Joseph C. Cyrulik and Michael P. Cyrulik. Joe was also a grandfather to Joseph C. Cyrulik and Melissa Cyrulik's son, Joseph A. Cyrulik. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lee and Nina Higgins, and sadly, predeceased by his brother William Cyrulik.
Upon returning to civilian life, Joe became a Service Manager at Gestetner Corporation in Yonkers, NY, and worked in the industry for over 45 years. His dedication to service extended beyond his professional life. Joe was a lifetime member of the Boy Scouts of America where he instilled his wisdom and kindness in the next generation of young men including his two sons. He was also a founding member of the Lakers Athletic & Social Club in Yonkers, NY.
Joe was a fervent fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants and had a particular affection for nature and the outdoors. He was a member of several associations including the Lake Purdy's P.O.A. (life member), Putnam County Fish & Game Association, and Mount Pleasant Trap Club. He was an avid hunter, fisher, and handyman.
Joseph J. Cyrulik will be remembered for his unending kindness and his unflinching integrity. His memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was loved and he loved in return.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 (GPS US-6),
Mahopac, NY.
A Prayer Service and Blessing to honor and celebrate Joseph J's life will take place during the visitation at 6:00 p.m. with a U.S. Naval Military Honors Ceremony prior to the service.
Private cremation will follow.
