Publish in a newspaper
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Vandalia Cemetery in Vandalia, MO.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at the funeral home.
Jake was born on May 29, 1941 in Vandalia, MO to William L. Van Hoose Sr. and Ellen Elizabeth Jones Van Hoose.
He was married on May 29, 1964 to Doris Miller. She survives.
Other survivors include two brothers: William L. Van Hoose Jr. (Linda) and Jim Van Hoose (Debbie) and two sisters: Betty Sue Miller and Alice Rouse (Mark). Also surviving are one niece, Kathy Culp (Joe) and many other special nieces and nephews.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harold Van Hoose and two nephews: David Van Hoose and Michael Van Hoose.
Jake was a retired roofer, who worked most of his career for A.F. Smith Roofing Company in Hannibal.
Jake served his country proudly in the United States Army.
In his free time Jake enjoyed assembling model cars, hunting and whittling canes. An avid reader, Jake preferred to read a classic western novel. Going on his daily walks, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and car rides with his brother Jim were a few of Jake's favorites. Life's simple pleasures were most special to Jake. He liked to sit on his porch swing and spend time with his nieces and nephews. A gifted storyteller, Jake could be funny and stubborn at times. Throughout his life Jake was a hard worker that loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers will be James Lain, Bucky Gollaher Jr., Jim Van Hoose, David Shepherd, Toby Lain and Billy Joe Culp II.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Brown, Jimmy Van Hoose, Jeff Van Hoose and Roy Earl Miller.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Missouri Humane Society or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
