Judy Marie Schumacher, 76, of Zanesville, formerly of Crooksville died in the morning hours of Friday, October 31, 2025, at Genesis Morrison House following a 5-year battle with Dementia.
She was born on July 2, 1949, to the late William and Thelma (Eveland) McDaniel.
Judy graduated from Crooksville High School in 1967. She then went on to graduate from Ohio University with a teaching degree where she specialized in teaching 1st grade. She started teaching at Bearfield, Crooksville and Norval Park Elementary Schools and finished her thirty years of teaching with Zanesville City Schools. Judy met the love of her life during her summer job at Nicol’s Family Restaurant in Zanesville. She was a devoted member of the Coburn United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir, she could also be found playing the piano. Judy loved all holidays but especially Christmas with her family. She enjoyed spending time going on family vacations, whether it was a Cincinnati Reds baseball game or traveling to their favorite spots in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. She was a devoted Zanesville Blue Devil fan and a member of the ZHS tipoff Club. Judy had a very special bond with her daughter, Julie.
Judy is survived in life by her, husband of 50 years, James R. Schumacher; her daughter, Julie Schumacher (Shane Muncie); her cousins, Patti (Eveland) Straccia, Robin Cronion, Vickie McDaniel, Brenda (Eveland) Zeigler and Dave Eveland; her good friends and cousins, Marilee Stark, Ron and Terri Carpenter and Frank and Karen Schumacher, and Jim and Lynne Mayercak.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, Judy is preceded in death by her close friends, Jill and Jackie Poole, her parents-in-law, Bob and Vi Schumacher and several aunts, uncles and cousin, Linda Shepherd, Larry Dillinger, Bob McDaniel, Don Eveland, Catherine Eveland, Jerry Straccia, Steven Eveland and Earl Eveland.
Friends and family are welcome to visit and pay their final respects from 3:00-5:00 PM, Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville. A memorial service and celebration of life will be 11:00 AM, Friday, November 7, 2025, at Coburn UMC, 3618 Maple Ave, Zanesville, OH 43701. Following visitation, Judy will be cremated.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Carr Center, especially Staci Allen, Jane Boggs, Cindi Morgan and the Genesis Hospice team of Selena, Becky, Tiffani, Kaylee, Jayde, Wendy and Amy.
Memorial contributions may be made in Judy’s honor to the Genesis Morrison House and the Carr Center.
