Kathleen Gade, age 98 of Emmetsburg, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Parc Hall Nursing Home in Emmetsburg. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 13, at Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend. Burial will take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Whittemore. Visitation will be 4-6 pm on Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church. Services will be livestreamed via Lentz Funeral Home's website: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/kathleen-gade. Lentz Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.
Kathleen Rose Gade, the daughter of George and Edna (Kuecker) Maahs, was born on June 1, 1926 on the farm West of Whittemore, Iowa. She was the oldest of 10 children and attended the Lutheran School in Whittemore. As a teenager she worked for different families in the Whittemore area cleaning houses and taking care of children.
On March 31, 1948 Kathleen was united in marriage with Milford Gade. They raised 6 children. Kathleen and Milford worked for Dorweiler Sand and Gravel in West Bend until they moved to West Bend in 1973. She then worked at Clear View Manor in West Bend as a dietary aide, housekeeper, CNA, activity director and laundry. Kathleen finally retired at the age of 85. She then moved to an apartment in Emmetsburg in 2012 then to PARC Hall in 2019.
Kathleen enjoyed quilting and would drive from Emmetsburg to West Bend to quilt at Peace Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, embroidering, playing 500, bingo, reading books, watching baseball and basketball. Kathleen loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She would send them birthday cards and care packages when they were in college.
Left to cherish Kathleen's memory are her daughters, Colleen (Don) Thilges of Emmetsburg and Carla Morgan of Emmetsburg; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Gade of Algona; siblings, Paul (Le Ann) Maahs of Otsego, MN, Ellen Manly of McAllen, TX and Marilyn Dietrich of Spencer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford Gade; parents, George and Edna Maahs; father and mother in-law, Werner and Emma Gade; children, Milford Gade Jr., Marlin Dean Gade, Cynthia Laubenthal, and Merle Gade; son in-laws, Jerome Laubenthal and Darrell Morgan; and siblings Don Maahs, Bill Maahs, Eileen Emory, Richard Maahs, Julie Pettit, and Robert Maahs.
Memorials may be made in Kathleen's name and directed to Diabetes Foundation of Iowa or Lutheran Hour Ministries. Lentz Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family. Condolences may be left at www.lentzfuneralhome.com
