It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kathleen Hawn, who left us on October 31, 2024, after becoming ill while on a trip of a lifetime in Europe.
Kathy was born in Philadelphia, PA to Margaret (nee Boyle) and John Ogden on July 10,1951. Their family settled in Millville, NJ when Kathy was 18 years old. In 1972, Kathy married Bob Hawn and became mother to Jennifer Kathleen, whom she raised to be fiercely independent.
Kathy began her professional career at Jones Electric as an office assistant and continued her career at United Electric, where she held many roles - sales, branch manager, product specialist, until her retirement in 2017. After her retirement she volunteered her time at All Saints Parish and took pride in becoming a poll worker for the Cumberland County Board of Elections. She contributed to many charities and was a staunch believer in being kind to others.
While raising her daughter and advancing in her career, Kathy earned both an associate's degree at Cumberland County College and a bachelor's degree in accounting at Rowan University
Kathy was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many. In 2005 and 2008, Kathy became "Grammy" to Maximus and Vivienne and this was her most cherished title. They were her absolute pride and joy and throughout their lives, she was their biggest champion, and she even became Grammy to their friends.
Kathy was the oldest of five siblings. She loved her family and friends deeply. Kathy made many friends throughout all periods of life, maintaining friendships with childhood friends, work friends and making new friends, who became like family and most recently, her yoga and swimming friends. She was present for celebrations, large and small, making every effort to show her love and support
Kathy was a steadfast Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan (much to the chagrin of her son-in-law Michael). She enjoyed baking for Michael and being chauffeur to Maximus and Vivienne. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her TV shows (clogging up the DVR), trying new recipes, knitting, crocheting, and painting ceramics. Kathy was an amazing daughter to Margaret, sister, mother, grandmother, friend, and colleague.
Kathy will be sadly missed by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Michael Zerra, their cherished children: Maximus and Vivienne Zerra, all with whom she resided. Her beloved mother, Margaret Maltese, sister, Elizabeth Ogden, sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Fred Spaziani, their children: Joseph and Alison Spaziani, brother, John Ogden, nieces, Lauren and Kristen, stepsisters, Judi and Ellie Maltese. She is also survived by her aunts, Nancy Boyle, Babs Boyle, uncle, Jim Lutz, cousins AnnMarie, Jim (Beth), Maureen (Mike) and Amy.
Kathy was predeceased by her father, John Ogden, sister, Susan Fayter, uncles, William and Robert Boyle and aunt, Jeanne Lutz.
Family and friends are invited to attend viewings on Friday November 8th, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Saturday November 9th, 2024 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Christy Funeral Home, 11 West Broad St, Millville, NJ. A funeral mass will begin on Saturday at 11:00 am at the Parish of All Saints, Buck & Depot Sts., Millville, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Millville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy should be made by donating time or financially to the charity of choice. Memories of Kathy and condolences for her family may be shared on the tribute wall.
