Kathleen Hedworth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home - Macon on Nov. 19, 2024.
Kathleen Jo Hedworth (Stevens), age 79, passed peacefully in her home in La Vernia Tx on Monday, November 11, 2024. She was surrounded by her family, including her own precious family medical team flown in from California, her nephew Stephen J.L. Stevens, niece Amy Stevens and niece Laura Shortreed.
Kathy Jo was born in Pasadena, California, on August 8, 1945, the first born of James B. and L. Lorraine Stevens. Kathy was the first cousin of dozens of cousins in Southern California and to many a family member from Arkansas. In 1957, Kathy's parents bought a home in Covina, California; which is where she met her childhood sweetheart, Delbert Val Gene, her husband of 60 years. Kathy and Val raised their 2 children, Sabrina Kathleen and Delbert Val Gene II in Southern California. Kathy was a hardworking woman who always made time to brighten someone's day with a card or a note or a phone call. She studied and became a CNA at Santa Teresita Hospital, for the bigger part of her career; until she moved to Missouri.
Val and Kathy relocated to Bevier, MO in the early 90s to be near their son and his wife Joey and their grandchildren, Tayler and Trace. She was a member of the Bevier First Baptist Church where she was baptized and found wonderful friends. Kathy continued to work through to retirement age and cared lovingly for her grandchildren.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lorraine Stevens, sons, Val, Tommie and Ronnie, brother Stephen D. Stevens, and sister Elizabeth Ulloa. She is survived by her husband, Delbert Val Gene I, daughter, Sabrina Kathleen, grandchildren Tayler and Trace.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO, with Dr. Phil Bray officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery New Addition in Bevier, MO. Visitation will be Friday evening, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, November 22, 2024, at the funeral home.
