Kathleen Kolasinski Piatt, 72, of Smyrna, Delaware, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. She resided with her daughter, Tara Bogia and husband, Paul.
Kathy was born in Wilmington on December 24, 1951 and attended John Dickinson High School. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was lovingly known as "Shakey Mommom" by all of them. Her hobbies included Cross Stitching, cooking, and an uncanny knack for avoiding housework. Kathy was married twice. Her first marriage was to David Thatcher, and they shared three children together. Her second marriage was to Mark Piatt, and the two resided in eastern North Carolina for many years. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley Kolasinski and his wife Josephine and Winifred Ruberto and her husband Edmund.
Kathy is survived by her children, Regina Thatcher, Tara Bogia and husband, Paul, Stephen Thatcher and wife, Amanda; her grandchildren, Stephanie, Natalie, Megan, Kerstin, Teresa, Alexander, Ezekial and Ellie; her great granddaughters, Mia and Olivia. She is also survived by her siblings, James Kolasinski and wife, Jane, Michele Winnington and husband, Tom, Arleen Kerrigan, Patricia Conley and husband, Glen, Barbara Collins and husband, Phil; as well as her nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, October 30 from 10:00 – 11:30AM. A Catholic funeral service will begin at 11:30AM, immediately followed by interment at Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kathy may be made to the Center for Dementia Research – Nathan S. Kline Institute, 140 Old Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg, NY 10962, Attn: Ralph Nixon, MD, PhD. (www.cdr.rfmh.org).
