Kathryn Marie “Kathy” Mattox Blackmon died September 12, 2024 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Kathy was the only daughter born to Carlos and Hazel Mattox in Berryville, AR on April 11, 1953. She grew up in Alpena and Green Forest, and she treasured her connection to that area even as life called her to live in several towns throughout Arkansas and Missouri before finally settling in Little Rock.

It is a mark of a life well lived that Kathy, at 71, was taken from us far too soon. She was first and foremost dedicated to her family, brightening our lives in a myriad of large and small ways. She had recently retired from a decades-long career in banking where she was dearly loved by her customers and clients. She devoted herself to her church, working tirelessly in ministries like the Choir, the Flower Girls, and her Sunday School Class. She was a member of Chapter AL, PEO in Arkansas and volunteered countless hours to endeavors she held dear. She loved traveling; gardening; cooking; shopping for special treats for others (and occasionally herself); discovering new restaurants; attending the theater; etc. etc. She was always “going,” usually accompanied by family or friends whom she would cheerfully tire out. She had the gift of making the everyday an adventure – and the adventures extraordinary.

Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Carlos and Hazel Mattox; brother Gerald Mattox and his spouse Mary Lou of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law Fae Mattox of Conway, AR; and parents-in-law Alfred and Floretta Blackmon of Harrison. She is survived by the joy and love of her life, sons Brad Blackmon (Ida Bostian) of Washington DC and Ryan Blackmon (Chris Stone) of El Dorado, AR; granddaughters Kaitlin and Alyssa Blackmon; great-granddaughter Kira Blackmon; brothers Kenneth Mattox of Conway and Michael Mattox (Judy) of Rogers; sisters-in-law Brenda Mathis (Jackie) and Sandy Blackmon (Beth Fitzgerald) of Harrison; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and an exceptionally large group of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Little Rock on Monday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. The family suggests sending memorial contributions to Methodist Family Health or the P.E.O. Foundation.
