Dr. Kenneth N. Fiehrer
Kenneth N. Fiehrer, aged 93, passed away peacefully at his home at Evergreen Retirement Community on September 11, 2024. He was born May 30, 1931 in Hamilton, Ohio to Lucian Oscar and Ursula Cecilia Ruhlman Fiehrer. He grew up in Hamilton and attended St. Ann's parochial school and Hamilton Catholic High School, now Stephen T. Badin High School. He went on to study pre-dent at the University of Dayton and graduated from St. Louis University as a Doctor of Dental Science in 1955.
Ken married Patricia Carole Freelove in 1955. The following year he moved with his young family to Munich, Germany where he served as Captain in the US Army at the Army Garrison Stuttgart. He said he was 'the only paratrooper who never got to jump.' While stationed in Germany, he and Pat enjoyed traveling to many countries including France, Italy, and Switzerland.
Upon returning home from service, Ken set up his dental practice in Greenhills, Ohio. The growing family lived in Greenhills, Forest Park, and then in their beloved farmhouse on McKelvey Rd. in Springfield Township, where Ken lived for 50 years. He moved his practice to Finneytown and continued to practice dentistry until 1995.
Doc Fiehrer was known as a generous person who gave much to his community. He donated dental services to vowed men and women religious, most notably Glenmary Home Missioners based in Fairfield, Ohio, and supported their efforts in regions throughout Appalachia. Dr. Fiehrer has been recognized for his volunteer dental work in St. Lucia and Honduras, and with Bosnian refugees at the army base in New Jersey.
Ken was a huge history buff and put his interest into action. He was featured in the local news for organizing and leading the effort to repair and restore the Finneytown Historical Cemetery. He was quoted as saying that he wanted to restore the cemetery "because those buried here deserve the respect" and that "a cemetery is like an outdoor Cathedral."
Ken also served many years as a volunteer with the Greenhills Fire Department where he was awarded the Frogman medal for diving into a flooded basement and "pulling the plug." He was known as Doc Sure-hands on the softball field. He loved his time with the fire department and made many lifelong friends.
Following the death of his wife Patricia in 1997, Ken married Marlene Brauning in April of 2000. As life-long Catholics devoted to their faith, Ken and Marlene endowed a scholarship for St. Ann students attending Badin High School. Ken and Marlene have enjoyed their homes and friends in
Cincinnati, Ohio and Bradenton, Florida for the past 24 years.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, children Deidre Fiehrer, Kevin (Carol) Fiehrer, Lucia Hammons, Timothy (Jane) Fiehrer, Patrick Fiehrer, Therese (Thomas) Hammons, and Andrea (David) Wiederhold, as well as their many grandchildren and great grandchildren, numbering nearly 100.
Visitation will be held at Neidhard Young Funeral Home 7401 Hamilton Ave., Mt. Healthy on Monday, September 16, 2024 from 6 PM - 8 PM.
