Kevin Gary Tolliver passed away on October 7, 2025, at the age of 64, in New Hampton, Iowa. Born on April 22, 1961, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Gary and Mary Ann (Kittelson) Tolliver. Kevin's life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the simple joys of life.
Kevin's early years were spent on a farm in the Alta Vista area, where the rolling fields and open skies shaped his character and instilled in him a love for the outdoors. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1979.
After high school, Kevin joined his father, Gary, at Tolliver Farm Supply in Alta Vista. The father-son duo worked side by side, forging a deep bond through their shared endeavors. However, Kevin's restless spirit and love for nature led him to pursue a degree in Horticulture from Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. This education was the catalyst for Kevin to start his own successful lawn care business, Lawnmasters, where he proudly served the local communities with his expertise in landscaping, mowing, and lawn care. He then met Heather Knight, and the two married, going on to lovingly raise three wonderful children: Garett, Keaton, and Grace. Although Kevin and Heather later divorced, their shared commitment to family remained unwavering.
A devout Christian, Kevin lived his faith through his actions and interactions with others. His desire to spread the gospel was evident in the way he handed out Bibles to his customers, friends, and strangers. His adventurous spirit was matched by his faith-filled heart, and he approached every aspect of life with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude. Kevin was also incredibly handy, a trait that served him well both professionally and in his personal pursuits.
Kevin's interests were as expansive. A huge sports fan, he cheered on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Dallas Cowboys with fervor. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for hunting and his anticipation for the annual fishing trips with his father to Canada. Kevin's love for old westerns and TV shows was not just a personal pleasure but became a shared experience that he enjoyed with his family. He made camping with his loved ones an adventure, creating memories that would be cherished for a lifetime.
UTV rides through the countryside were a favorite pastime of Kevin's, as he reveled in the joy of open air and the beauty of the Iowa landscape. Above all, Kevin was a family man at heart. He cherished the role of being a grandpa and dedicated as much time as possible to his grandson, Jack. The precious moments spent with his family were the ones he treasured most.
Kevin's absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his legacy of adventure, faith, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Kevin is survived by his children, Garett Tolliver of New Hampton, IA, Keaton (Rachel) Tolliver of Cedar Falls, IA, and Grace Tolliver of Jesup, IA; one grandson, Jack Tolliver; one brother, Galen (Therese) Tolliver of Cresco, IA; longtime companion, Doris Mitchell of Lawler, IA; one sister, Tami (Larry) Bernstein of Tempe, AZ; ex-wife, Heather (Chris) Mead of New Hampton, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
