Douglas Dean Longwill

November 23, 1942 – March 12, 2025

A loving husband and stepfather, Doug (82) passed away peacefully in his sleep and is now with his sweetheart Barbara and Heavenly Father. The son of Jesse and Cecel Longwill, he was born in Montrose CO. He spent his early life in Montrose and Grand Junction where he leaned more towards auto and wood shops than sports related activities. He worked often on his first car, a Model A, learning mechanics and enjoying time with his friends from auto shop.

After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served from August 1961 to June 1969. He served on the USS Sarda (SS-488) and the USS George Washington (SSBN-598, the first U.S. Navy nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine). Doug was trained in multiple facets of submarine and nuclear operation, but his focus was on electrical systems. When he was honorably discharged, he had reached the rank of Petty Officer First Class (E-6).

His next life chapter landed him in central New Jersey where he worked a few different electrician jobs. This is where he met the love of his life Barbara. They dated for a few years in NJ and after moving to Mountain View, WY they were married on December 22nd, 1988. They remained happily married until Barbara’s passing in October 2019. Doug worked at and retired from Solvay Minerals near Green River, WY. Doug and Barbara spent their retirement years the best way any couple can imagine, together. Every Christmas for about 12 years they would dress up and bring Christmas cheer to the valley as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. They really enjoyed these times, and both talked about them often.

Doug enjoyed Geocaching, target shooting, camping, fishing, playing with their two dogs (Daisy and Suzie) and spending time with good friends and loved ones. Doug was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Doug was also an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for many years. Doug helped everyone in the community, whenever he could. Doug made the most out of that “Little Dash In Between”! Doug was a big prankster and loved to catch people off guard with his pranks!

Douglas is survived by his stepdaughter Jacquie Patton and her husband Keith of Spring Hill, Florida and his stepson Calvin George Blaser Jr and his wife May of San Tan Valley, AZ. He also had three grandchildren (Priscilla, Kristy and Brittaney) and six great grandchildren (Nicholis, Jordi, Aaliyah, Molly, Bethany and Jesse).

He will be dearly missed by family and long-time friends.
