Laura Woody Obituary

Laura Mae (Hembree) Woody (known as Mae) was born on August 27, 1929 to David Cleveland and Julie (Martin) Hembree in Topton, North Carolina. She was the youngest of five children. She grew up in North Carolina where she attended school. She met Frank Woody and they would be married on September 22, 1956 in North Carolina. They would start out their married life in North Carolina for a couple of years before moving to Oregon, where they would raise their children. They spent the next 35 years in Oregon and Mae would work as a Certified Nursing Assistant caring for the infirm for many years. Her husband Frank would die in 1999 and Mae would take a big move in her life to Lake Park, Minnesota living close to her two daughters. Mae has been lovingly cared for the past year by the staff at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Lake Park, MN. 

Mae enjoyed putting together puzzles, reading, and singing. She will be remembered for having green thumbs and loved to spend many hours in the yard growing flowers. Cooking for her family also brought her great joy. 

Mae is survived by four children: Willie (Greg) Giere of Mission, TX, Frank (Debbie) Woody of Fossell, OR, Mark (Sherry) Woody of Condon, OR, and Joy Woody of Lake Park, MN, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings: Arthur Hembree, Frank Hembree, Ruby Gray, and Elsie Neal. 

Mae Woody died on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the Sunnyside Nursing Home in Lake Park, MN. Per her request, no services will be held.
